Moving Forward
Nikki and Anne Heart ♥ September 11, 2025
The quiet struggle to move forward.
Letting go of the past and stepping into something new isn’t always as simple as it sounds.
Especially when everything around you—people, culture, even well-meaning advice—keeps telling you to just move on, as if healing were a switch you could flip.
But it’s not. It’s layered, personal, and often messy. And sometimes, the hardest part isn’t the past itself—it’s feeling like you’re supposed to be “over it” already.
You’re not alone in that. And you’re not behind. You’re just human, doing the best you can.
Getting stuck moving forward.
Sometimes, moving forward feels impossible while the world around you keeps going forward without you.
It’s not just the weight of your own thoughts. But the heaviness from loss time and low self-esteem that can creep in when hope feels out of reach or when the future looks too uncertain to trust.
And then there’s the kind of negativity that’s harder to name: the quiet judgment or misunderstanding from people who haven’t walked your path. They might mean well, but their words can sting when they don’t see the full picture of what you’ve been through—or what you’re still carrying.
How to move forward:
Step 1, Believe in yourself.
Not in a cliché way—but in the quiet, steady way that reminds you: you are enough, even when the world tries to convince you otherwise.
Step 2, Don’t compare.
It’s easy to fall into comparison. Someone will always know more than you, and someone else will know less. Someone will have more, and someone will have less. Some people will be taller, stronger, quicker, or more polished in ways that seem to matter. Others won’t.
And that’s okay.
Step 3, Don’t consume yourself with “what if”
Yes, it’s healthy to reflect and ask whether you’re on the right path. But don’t let those questions consume you. The truth is no one can predict the future. What you can do is show up for the present.
Step 4, Live in the present
Looking back, you might think, “If only that hadn’t happened, I’d be…” And maybe that’s true. But staying stuck in that place can quietly steal your future.
You don’t have to forget what happened. You don’t even have to forgive it right away. But you do deserve a future that isn’t defined by your past.
Step 5, Small steps forward
Healing takes time. And strength doesn’t always look like bold leaps—it often looks like small, quiet steps.
So if today you got out of bed, that’s a win. If you stepped outside, celebrate that. If you applied for a job, tried something new, or made a choice to care for your wellness—be proud.
The little things matter. They add up. They move you forward
