 It’s A New Year

by Nikki and Anne Heart ♥  January 1, 2026

*Although we wrote this post together, we have chosen to present the following through Mom’s eyes.

As the new year begins, it’s easy to feel weighed down by the past. Many of us look back at the things we didn’t accomplish, and that reflection can stir up stress and anxiety about what lies ahead.

I’ve seen this struggle up close with my daughter. Because of an inappropriate medical treatment program, she lost years of her life—years she can never get back. Now she feels the pressure of trying to catch up, to reach the place she believes she should already be. For her, the turning of the calendar isn’t just stressful; birthdays and holidays carry their own shadows of sadness.

And I know she’s not alone. So many people wrestle with the same realization—that time has slipped away, and it can’t be reclaimed. It’s a heavy burden to carry.

But here’s what I’ve learned: the only way forward is to treat the present as a fresh start. It’s not easy to let go of the past, but it’s necessary if we want to move toward the dreams and goals that have been waiting for us.

Life will always bring challenges. There will be moments when you feel like you’re slipping backward. But progress doesn’t have to be big or fast—it’s the small, steady steps that matter. Each one brings you closer to where you want to be.

From our home to yours, wishing you all a happy holiday and a great new year!
